Welcome to MMT 2019

Shenzhen University (SZU) is honored to host the 11th International Conference on Mobile Mapping Technology (MMT 2019).

The conference will be held at Shenzhen University on 6 May to 8 May 2019.

The conference provides a platform for international scholars, graduate students, future scientists and the industrial sector to learn and exchange knowledge and experience regarding the application of up-to-date mobile mapping technologies for sustainable development. Thanks to the advancement of direct-georeferencing and sensor technologies, mobile mapping has become a versatile technology for fast geospatial data acquisition and mega engineering projects. The growing market penetration of mobile mapping, satellite imaging and web GIS has created abundant research and business opportunities for geospatial communities to develop new technologies for smart cities and improve the quality of life of people around the world.

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Shenzhen, a coastal city in South China located at the southern tip of the Chinese mainland on the eastern bank of the Pearl River neighboring Hong Kong. The country's first special economic zone - the brainchild of late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping - was established here in 1980, and since then, Shenzhen has been a touchstone for China's reform and opening-up policy. In merely 38 years, Shenzhen, once a tiny border town of just over 30,000 people, has grown into a modern metropolis. After establishing many firsts in the history of world industrialization, urbanization and modernization, it has become a prosperous, chic, innovative, harmonious and beautiful city.

The first International Symposium on Mobile Mapping Technology (MMT), first held in 1995 at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, USA, has become the largest international conference dedicated to mobile mapping technology and applications. The International Conference on MMT is a premier event organized jointly by the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS), the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) and the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG). MMT offers a significant forum for research and development in mobile mapping technology, systems and applications. The advancement of mobile mapping technology has contributed to many aspects of Geomatics and day-to-day life activities. MMT reflects the core spectrum of the latest developments in mobile mapping technology, ranging from research on algorithms to system development, from land-based to airborne systems, from direct georeferencing to sensor integration and from mobile data collection to dynamic GIS management.

The MMT Symposium (International Symposium on Mobile Mapping Technology) is an academic conference officially recognized by the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. Since its inception in 1997, the MMT Symposium has become one of the most important and popular conferences in mobile mapping technology and geo-information. The MMT Symposium serves as an effective platform for participants to exchange ideas and share research progress, as well as learn about the innovation and advancement of various technologies, products and services in the industry.

Progress in mobile mapping technology has enabled sophisticated applications and nurtured a prosperous industry. Since the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, the 2008 Sichuan earthquake and the 2009 Morakot typhoon, mobile mapping applications in environmental monitoring, hazard mitigation and other issues have been proven efficient and widely recognized not only by the scientific community but also by public and governmental agencies. An increasing number of recent research studies and products have enriched the geo-information industry and heightened the level of competition in the field.

The Key Laboratory for Geo-Environmental Monitoring of the Coastal Zone of the National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation and the Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Spatial Smart Sensing and Services of Shenzhen University will host the 11th International Symposium on Mobile Mapping Technology (11th MMT 2019). This symposium will be held on 6-8 May, 2019, at Shenzhen University under the auspices of several international organizations including ISPRS, FIG, ION, and IAG. Based on the statistics of past MMT conferences, over 500 participants from all over the world are expected to attend the symposium.

Coming from diverse backgrounds, MMT conference participants include not only students, scientists, researchers and technicians but also government and private sector users. Therefore, the MMT Symposium represents an ideal opportunity to promote your products and services. By sponsoring MMT 2019, enterprises can both directly support the conference and gain access to a large base of potential users and customers. To make the most of this great opportunity to demonstrate and promote your technologies, products and services to the local and international participants of MMT 2019, we offer three sponsorship levels for MMT 2019, including:

About Shenzhen

Shenzhen, situated just across the border from Hong Kong, is a beautiful coastal garden city in South China. It is a city of sunshine and modernity, where economic development keeps pace with social development, and people live in harmony with nature.
Shenzhen which is the China's first special economic zone is a pioneering and innovative city. It is in the vanguard of China's reforms and opening up to the rest of the world. In its short history of 34 years, Shenzhen has developed from a small fishing village into a modern city with a gross domestic product (GDP) per capita which gives it premier ranking in China. This is a remarkable achievement, notable in the annals of urbanization, industrialization and modernization across the globe.

As Shenzhen embraces the world, concomitantly it is becoming internationalized. As China's first special economic zone, Shenzhen began to open up to the rest of the world in 1980, becoming one of the country's major channels of communication with the outside world. Shenzhen has 17 sea, land and air ports, including China's largest land passenger port and land cargo port.In 2011, the 26th Universiade was held here, which made Shenzhen the youngest city in history to host the Games.

Shenzhen is a city with deep cultural roots that sit in tandem with its creative and modern ethos. It is said to have a history of 5,000 years, but was only founded 34 years ago. Since its foundation, Shenzhen has created a migrant culture and an innovative spirit of "encouraging innovation and pursuing excellence." At the forefront of Chinese cities in promoting the use of voluntary services, it boasts about 530,000 volunteers in various fields of activity.
